We examined the relation between pre-menstrual and menstrual symptoms experienced by female college students and their dietary habits. The purpose of this research was to ascertain whether or not there was any difference between non-nursing students and student nurses who have had the opportunity to learn about menstruation and nutrition. We distributed a written questionnaire to 524 female students, 354 of whom gave valid responses - 146 non-nursing students and 205 student nurses. Results were as follows : 16.1 % of non-nursing students regularly abstained from eating breakfast, while 19.1% of student nurses did so. Regarding students' BMI, family structure, and dietary habits, there was little difference between the two groups. Of 14 prevalent pre-menstrual symptoms, both groups of students experienced an average of 3 - 4, including breast enlargement, abdorninal pain, and pain in the waist area. However, non-nursing students admitted drowsiness more often than student nurses. Students of both groups experienced is 15 of the most common menstrual symptoms, students of both groups experienced 3 - 4, with more than 50 % reporting pain in the abdominal and waist areas. The number of non-nursing students who complained of general body fatigue was significantly higher than that of student nurses. There was no appreciable difference in the number of symptoms, meal contents, or dietary habits in either group of students. Non-nursing students were more health-conscious than student nurses. Regarding food content, student nurses were found to have ingested a larger number of eggs, while non-nursing students ate a larger amount of vegetables.
