Actias ignescens Mooreは, アンダマン諸島に固有のオオミズアオ属の1種で, 東南アジアの広域種, A. maenas Doubledayの代置種と考えられている.1998年9月, 南アンダマン島のHarriet山国立公園内のCrypteronia paniculata(フトモモ目クリプテロニア科)から得られた2頭の老齢幼虫から本種の♂♀が羽化し, これらを飼育ケージに入れて, 交配させた.また, 2001年12月には, 同地で新鮮な♀個体が得られ, これも飼育ケージに入れて, 採卵した.これら2頭の♀からは合計113卵が得られ, 幼生期について詳細な観察を行った.本報では, 卵から繭までの幼生期を図示・記載し, 従来未知であった♀についても図示・記載した.なお, ヤママユガ科の食樹としてのクリプテロニア科は今回が初めての記録であるが, 私達(Veenakumari et al., 1995)がAttacus mcmulleni Watsonの食樹の一つとして記録したVitex glabrataはCrypteronia paniculataの誤りであった.
The immature stages and previously unknown female of Actias ignescens, an endemic of the Andaman Islands, are described and figured in colour. The larval host plant in nature is Crypteronia paniculata (Crypteroniaceae). There are two generations annually, with adults on the wing in January and again in August and September. The immature stages are compared with those of the nearest related species of Actias.
