Abstract
A 71-year-old man was referred to our hospital for left pneumothorax, with a past history of pneumoconiosis. Even with continuous chest tube drainage, pneumothorax with massive air leakage did not improve. Then, chest computed tomography (CT) revealed multiple bullae in the left upper lobe and tension pneumothorax. He underwent bullectomy through minithoracotomy with video-assisted technique. Operation time was 105 minutes, blood loss was 250ml, and the postoperative course was uneventful. He was doing well without recurrence 6 months after the operation. Reports of surgical treatment of secondary pneumothorax with pneumoconiosis are rare, despite the improvement of videoassisted technique as a minimally invasive approach. Then, we report a case of bullectomy through minithoracotomy with video-assisted technique for secondary tension pneumothorax with pneumoconiosis.
