Abstract

An 86-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of lower abdominal pain, vomiting and shaking chill. Abdominal X-ray examination and CT scan showed free air. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy showed no abnormal findings. An emergency operation was performed with a diagnosis of panperitonitis due to perforation of the lower intestinal tract. At laparotomy, we found a perforated part of the ileum at 20cm proximal from the ileum end. Partial resection of the small intestine was performed. Histological diagnosis was primary Hodgkin's disease of the small intestine. Postoperative course was uneventful. However, since the postoperative day 29, the patient went into septic state with her easy infectious state, and died of disseminated intravascular coagulation and hepatic failure on the postoperative day 48.<br> Although non-Hodgkin's lymphoma of the small intestine has been reported in many cases, primary Hodgkin's disease of the small intestine, like this case, is extremely rare. To the best of our knowledge, there have been no other case of the disease. We think this is the first case at present.
