The morbidity of breast cancer in China is about 23/100, 000, which is relatively lower than in most countries. During 1973-1975, breast cancer mortality was 2.86/100, 000, and during 1990-1992 it decreased to 2.59/100, 000 (according to a population invested in 1982). However, breast cancer continues to be a life-threatening disease for women. With the aim of reducing breast cancer mortality, a tumor prevention and cure office was set up inLiaoning province. We also established a tumor prevention and cure network that included provincial hospitals located in regional towns. Data for Dalian city and Anshan city in Liaoning province showedthat there are two onset peaks of female breast cancer in terms of age : 40-45 years old and after 60 years old. Therefore in Liaoning province we focus on women aged 30-64. Women in this age group undergo examinations once every 3 years ; the frequency is once every 2-3 years for women aged 40-49 years, and once a year for women aged 50 years or older. Various cities have established multiform universal regimens for follow-up of women at high risk and making them available for long-term monitoring. The examination methods include mammary inspection and palpation, near infrared examination, mammography, and breast self-examination.
