抄録

A vacuum thermal recycling (VTR) process was applied to separate PCBs from PCB-adsorbed activated carbon. Maintaining the PCB-adsorbed activated carbon samples (151 mg/kg, 101 mg/kg) at temperatures greater than 400°C at less than 600 Pa for 2 hours, PCBs were separated almost completely, thereby meeting the target value of 0.5 mg/kg. These results indicate good feasibility of treating PCB-adsorbed activated carbon using VTR processing. The homologue pattern of the trace amount of PCBs in the treated activated carbon showed that dechlorination was dependent on temperature and treatment time. The fraction of non/mono-chlorinated biphenyls in the separated PCBs was higher than that in the PCB-adsorbed activated carbon before treatment. Results showed that VTR processes separated PCBs from PCB-adsorbed activated carbon. In addition, they caused dechlorination to change its homologue pattern.
