Abstract

The density of molten slag showed a tendency to be higher compared to natural aggregate (about 2.5-2.6 g/cm3) . We carried out density measurements, polarized microscope observations, chemical analysis and X-ray diffraction analysis to identify the factors that determine molten slag density.
We obtained the following results.
1) The first factor that affects molten slag density is Fe2O3 content.
2) The second factor that affects molten slag density is the minerals that crystallize in the slag.
3) Density and minerals relations can be expressed adequatelyby classifying slag as non-crystallized slag, partially crystallized slag and crystallized slag.In cases when crystallized minerals such as Gehlenite, Augite and Hematite are in high concentration, the density of the slag is also high.
