Holographic Recording in Methacrylate Photopolymer Film Codoped with Benzyl $n$-Butyl Phthalate and Silica Nanoparticles

Transmission volume holograms recorded in methacrylate photopolymer films codoped with benzyl $n$-butyl phthalate (BBP) and silica nanoparticles are studied. It is found that BBP, which is a well-known plasticizer, can be directly mixed with methacrylate monomer and that a refractive index modulation as high as ${\sim}0.006$ is recorded with a BBP concentration of 36 vol %. It is also found that the additional dispersion of silica nanoparticles substantially suppresses polymerization shrinkage without increasing optical scattering loss.
