Abstract

We report the case of a 75-year-old man who underwent Miles operation for rectal cancer at another hospital in July 1995. Management of stoma had become difficult, so the patient was referred to our department by a local physician in September 2003 for reconstruction of the stoma. The diagnosis suggested a that mucoimplant be made. Therefore, silver nitrate burnout was performed as outpatient treatment, in parallel with monthly treatment by carbonic acid gas laser. During the treatment, bleeding and pain were not significant. After ten times of laser treatment in September 2004, the periphery of the stoma was almost flat and the patient's symptoms had disappeared. The treatment of a mucoimplant of stoma periphery by the combination of silver nitrate burnout and carbonic acid gas laser turned out to be effective.
