Optimized Automatic Frequency Control

An adaptive loop filter is introduced to optimize the synchronization performance of automatic frequency control (AFC) loops. Application of the the method presented to a well-known frequency discriminator and tracking loop shows that the acquisition time and tracking jitter are greatly reduced. Furthermore, a substantial improvement in bit error rate (BER) performance has been achieved.
