Abstract

Endoscopic naso gallbladder drainage (ENGBD) and intraductal ultrasonography in gallbladder (IDUS in GB) were performed in patients with acute cholecystitis to evaluate the usefulness. All of these patients had liver chirrhosis or acute cholangitis. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) was performed, followed by insertion of a 2mm-diameter probe of IDUS into the bile duct and gallbladder trough the cystic duct. And finally ENGBD catheter was inserted into the gallbladder. The IDUS probe could be inserted into the gallbladder in 10 patients, and ENGBD was performed in 12 of 14 patients. In two patients, acute cholecystitis recurred, one patient received operation and another one had tube stent in the gallbladder trough the cystic duct. We conclude that the simultaneous use of IDUS in GB and ENGBD is useful for patients with acute cholecystitis in making the diagnosis and offering the treatment at the same time, and that it will be increasingly employed in future.
