We experienced two cases of food-induced ileus due to heavy ingestion of peanuts. Case 1: A 51-year-old man was brought into the hospital by ambulance because of severe abdominal pain. The patient was suspected to have ileus due to strangulation of the intestine and was operated on. An impacted foodstuff was seen in the jejunum 270cm distal from the ligament of Treitz. On account of difficulty in moving the content to the colon, we inserted an ileus bag, and removed the content. Case 2: A 43-year-old man was seen at the hospital because of abdominal distention and vomiting. Actually, he drank beer and ate peanuts heavily six days before admission. Abdominal CT scan revealed obstruction of the small bowel at distal end of the dilated jejunum including some grains. Food-induced ileus was diagnosed. Laparotomy was performed and the impacted foodstuff was seen in the small bowel 180cm from the end of ileum. The content was advanced to the ascending colon manually. We have to keep peanut in mind as a possible cause of intestinal obstruction, when CT scan reveals the dilated intestine including some grains. Additionally, it is important to interview patients about foods ingested.
