Abstract

A 55-year-old woman visited our hospital complaining of right lower abdominal pain. Ultrasonography revealed an echo free space with suspected abscess formation. Under the diagnosis of acute appendicitis, appendectomy and peritoneal drainage were performed. Histopathologically, the appendix showed a primary malignant B-cell lymphoma, characterized by diffuse large cell type according to LSG (lymphoma study group) classification. Lymphoma cells localized above the submucosal layer of the appendix. Without adjuvant chemotherapy or re-operation for lymphnode dissection, she has been free from recurrence at this writing about 42 months after operation. We also reviewed 49 cases of previous Japanese reports.
