Abstract

<p>A 34-year-old woman had felt a left groin mass 6 months previously. She was admitted to our hospital because of swollen and pain on the left lower limb since 2 months previously. Ultrasonography revealed a tumor around a left femoral vein, the left femoral vein and iliac vein occluded due to the tumor embolism or thrombus. We suspected tumor embolism or deep vein thrombosis associated with a soft tissue tumor around the left femoral vein, especially, intravenous leiomyosarcoma. Temporaly inferior vena cava filter was inserted one day before operation. At operation, the tumor was seen over the left femoral vein, invaded within the venous wall and tumor embolism was seen in the iliac vein. After extracting tumor embolism and a thrombus within the left femoral vein, it was resected about 7 cm in length with the tumor. It was replaced ringed ePTFE vascular prosthesis in 8 mm diameter and reconstructed a left greater saphenous vein with end to side anastomosis. Histopathological findings of tumor revealed a malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor. Local recurrence was occurred on the left inguinal at 10 month after operation.</p>
