Abstract
Purpose: We evaluated change the of corneal refractive power during accommodation in young myopes.
Subjects and methods: Twenty-seven eyes of 39 healthy volunteers without any ophthalmological disorder except refractive error were participated in this study. Their mean age was 20.85 years (rage 19 to 24) and mean spherical equivalent was -4.67±2.93D (SD) (range -0.35 to -9.34D). The objective refraction was measured using WR-5100K™ (Grand Seiko Co.). We investigated corneal refractive power and a change of refraction in all meridians with accommodation. In addition, we divided subjects into 3 groups (low myopia, moderate myopia, high myopia) base on their refraction.
Results: The change of corneal refractive power with accommodation were significantly correlated (Spearman's correlation coefficient by rank test r=0.193, p=0.016). In addition, no statistically significant relationship was found between accommodation and minimum keratometric values (r=0.137, p=0.088), but there was maximum keratometric values in the change with accommodation (r=0.182, p=0.023).In a group of high myopia, however as for the change of corneal refractive power with accommodation, were significantly positive correlated (r=0.292, p=0.036).
Conclusions: This study suggest that the change of corneal refractive power with accommodation, and it was considered that corneal refractive power with accommodation became steep in a group of high myopia.
