Abstract

Recently, various Machizukuri Groups, including universities, act in the city center, though they have many problems of their own. This research focuses on such problems of the Machizukuri groups acting in the city center, by taking Semba (Osaka), Nihonbashi (Tokyo) and Kyoto as examples, and examines the significance of the participation of the university into the diversifying Machizukuri in it. As the results, the form of participation of the university into Machizukuri in the city center is not a uniform state correspond to the uniqueness and diversity of each Machizukuri. But universities try in common to return the results of research to the society.
