Abstract

The effects of electron injection in polymer light-emitting diodes that are based on the phosphorescent material of fac-tris (2-phenylpyridine) iridium (Ir(ppy)3) devices with CsF/MgAg/Ag cathodes were investigated. The coexistence of CsF and MgAg resulted in efficient electron injection. The performances of air-exposed devices with CsF and Cs cathodes were different. The deposition orders of 3 nm-thick CsF and 1 nm-thick MgAg were independently necessary to achieve efficient electron injection. In the case of the device with Cs/MgAg cathode, however, to achieve the efficient electron injection, it is necessary for Cs to exist just on the organic layer. We suggest that the electron injection effects between devices with CsF and those with Cs are different.
