BaCO<SUB>3</SUB> nanorods have been successfully prepared by the microwave-assisted method at 90 °C using Ba(NO<SUB>3</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB> and (NH<SUB>4</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB>CO<SUB>3</SUB> in the presence of NaOH or hexamethylenetetramine ((CH<SUB>2</SUB>)<SUB>6</SUB>N<SUB>4</SUB>) in ethylene glycol. The heating time and type of alkali played an important role in the size and morphology of BaCO<SUB>3</SUB>.
