Superprism Effect of a Triangular One-Dimensional Photonic Crystal Embedded in a Slab Waveguide of a Ta2O5 Core with SiO2 Cladding

We first embedded a triangular one-dimensional photonic crystal in a slab waveguide of a Ta2O5 core with SiO2 cladding. The change in the output angle was 4.8° with the incident wavelength change of 1% for wavelengths of 1400–1500 nm. This value was 1.7 times larger than that of our previous photonic crystal with a SiO2 core. In addition, the maximum diffraction efficiency of 25% was achieved, which was a considerable improvement over the efficiency of our previous one.
