Absolute Configuration of Hydroxycitric Acid Produced by Microorganisms
Optical resolution for (2<I>S</I>,3<I>R</I>) and (2<I>R</I>,3<I>S</I>)-hydroxycitric acid (HCA) enantiomers was developed using chiral column chromatography. HCA from <I>Bacillus megaterium</I> G45C and <I>Streptomyces</I> sp. U121, newly isolated in our previous study, was analyzed to determine the absolute configuration. These results indicate that both strains generate optically pure (2<I>S</I>,3<I>R</I>)-hibiscus type HCA enantiomer.
