Abstract

A 64-year-old woman was seen at the hospital because of a tumor of the left shoulder. The tumor measuring 1.5×1.0cm in diameter was hard, well-defined, and well-movable which projected like a dome and was ridging. No abnormal findings were noted in the skin above the tumor. Ultrasonography showed a well-defined hypoechoic oval tumor with a hyperechoic part inside of it. Magnetic resonance imaging scans visualized the tumor showing slightly high signal intensity with a low signal center in T1-weighted images ; and did as a well-defined tumor showing low signal intensity with a ring-shaped inner part showing high signal intensity in T2-weighted images. The tumor was removed under local anesthesia. Pathological studies revealed monolocular cyst lined with stratified squamous epithelium, and no granular layer was involved in the stratified squamous epithelium. Thus trichilemmal cyst was diagnosed.
