Abstract

The patient was a 56-year-old man. He had been diagnosed with having dissection of the superior mesenteric artery (SMA) and an aneurysm of the common hepatic artery caused by acute abdominal condition. Conservative therapy had provided a relief and thereafter the clinical progress had been carefully followed up. In the third year of follow-up, melena occurred and gastric cancer was detected. We performed the distal gastrectomy for gastric cancer and excision and revascularization for the aneurysm of the common hepatic artery.<br>Although a recent progress in diagnostic imaging has contributed toward an increasing number of detected cases of aneurysm of the common hepatic artery, the fatality rate at the time of rupture has been reported to be high because of difficulty in making the diagnosis of the pathological condition with minimum symptoms. Furthermore, isolated SMA dissection is an extremely rare disease. Although the patients suffering from an isolated SMA dissection alone or those suffering from an aneurysm of the common hepatic artery alone are regarded as rare cases, the present patient had gastric cancer complicated by both of these two rare diseases. On the basis of our experience, we report the surgical treatment for gastric cancer.
