Abstract

A 70-year-old man, who had been suffering from repeated episodes of exacerbating pancreatitis since his first episode of acute pancreatitis at the age of 68, needed emergency hospitalization for epigastralgia on drinking. An enhanced CT scan of the abdomen showed a 12-mm nodule in the pancreatic tail. Magnetic resonance imaging scan showed a nodule with high intensity in T1-weighted irnages. These findings suggested invasive ductal carcinoma or a pancreatic mucinous cystic tumor. Thus, the patient underwent partial pancreatectomy, of the body and tail. Histological examination revealed oncocyte formation with an acinar pattern. The tumor contained a cystic lesion with epithelium consisting of cancer cells. Based on these findings, we diagnosed the case as acinar cell carcinoma with a cyst.
