Abstract

Little is still known about acanthosis nigricans-like eruptions on the hands and feet where bullous eruptions improved in patients with bullous pemphigoid. We herein describe five female patients with bullous pemphigoid who presented with acanthosis nigricans-like eruption on the extremities. The bullous eruptions improved after the administration of systemic corticosteroid therapy. The histologic features included orthohyperkeratosis, acanthosis, papillomatosis, incontinentia pigmenti histologica, and mild lymphocytic cell infiltration around the dermal vessels. An immunohistochemical analysis for human papilloma virus in our five cases was negative. These unique cutaneous lesions spontaneously disappeared within several weeks.
