Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness and side effects of calcipotriol following therapy with a steroid ointment or a low dose of tacalcitol ointment. The subjects were 30 patients with psoriasis who were treated with calcipotriol. All of the patients, including those who had used steroids ranked “strongest” or “very strong”, showed improvement in erythema, infiltration and scaling. Enlargement of the area of erythem considered to be the same as circumlesional scaling, was observed in 4 patients, and one patient complained of an irritating feeling. The results suggest that a change from treatment with steroid ointment to treatment with calcipotriol is safe and effective for patients with psoriasis.
