Abstract

Thirty nine Holstein Friesian bulls raised for meat were examined at 1 to 22 months of age for plasma vitamin A, vitamin D metabolites and vitamin E and liver vitamin A. Plasma vitamin A and 25-hydroxyvitamin D increased with age. Liver vitamin A was lower in younger animals, gradually increasing with age. The levels of plasma 1, 25-dihydroxyvitamin D and alkaline phosphatase were higher at 10.5 months or less of age, suggesting the plasma concentration increasing with the bone growth. Plasma vitamin E was much lower in younger animals, increasing slightly with age.
