Abstract
A 6-month-old female Alaskan Malamute with ascites retention was found by combined echocardiography to have severe subvalvular pulmonic stenosis, moderate tricuspid regurgitation, mild subvalvular aortic stenosis and mild aortic regurgitation. Because the clinical manifestations were considered to be due to severe subvalvular pulmonic stenosis with infundibular hypertrophy, balloon pulmonary valvuloplasty was performed using the INOUE balloon technique. Ascites retention slowed down and the quality of life was improved after the operation, and at 18 months postoperation the instantaneous pressure gradient between the right ventricle and pulmonary artery remained stable at approximately 60 mmHg while 102 mmHg before operation.
