Abstract

The ovary follicle and cecum samples from 224 spent layer chickens (13 poultry farms, 18 lots in Niigata Prefecture) and 11 environmental dusts were examined for Salmonella infection at a poultry processing plant from 1994 to 1995. Eight serotypes of Salmonella were isolated at 9 out of 13 farms, and Salmonella Enteritidis was isolated from 3 of 9 farms at isolation rates of 10% to 45%.
