Abstract

We report two cases of intestinal actinomycosis. Patient 1, an 81-year-old woman admitted to the hospital because of an intraabdominal tumor was suspected to have colon cancer by abdominal CT scan, and underwent a transeverse colectomy. During surgery the transverse colon was obstructed due to a parenteral tumor and a fish bone was identified in the tumor. Accordingly we diagnosed the case as inflammatory tumor caused by colonic perforation of the fish bone. Patient 2, a 31-year-old man on hemodialysis, was seen at the hospital because of right lower abdominal pain. On physical examination, a tumor with tenderness was palpated in the ileocecal region. Abdominal CT scan offered a suspicion of tumor formed acute appendicitis, and an ileocecal resection was performed. Histological studies of the resected materials from both patients revealed specific crub formation surrounding the grain. The definitive diagnosis of intestinal actinomycosis was made in them.<br> Abdominal actinomycosis is reratively rare in recent years, but it must be taken into consideration as a probable diagnosis of an intraabdominal tumor.
