Abstract
The most important problem in developing liquid crystal display(LCDs)utilizing ferroelectric liquid crystal(FLC)is how to obtain defect free FLCDs. In this report a phenomenological analysis for getting C1 or C2 uniform state in SS-FLC has been done. Utilizing this theory, the free energies including bulk elastic and surface parts have been simulated depending on parameters such as surface topography, anchoring energies, LC thickness, and other values. Furthermore we have found out the critical conditions of the C1 and C2 states transition and succeeded in fabricating defect free FLCD with C2 uniform used rubbing and with C1 uniform used photoalignment technique.
