Abstract

We report eight cases of tick bite that occurred in Oita, Japan during the period from 2002 to 2003. All the patients visited our hospital between April and July in the respective years. Causative tick species were Amblyomma testudinarium (one adult and four nymph cases), Haemaphysalis longicornis (one adult and one nymph cases), and Ixodes nipponensis (one adult case). All but one of the patients were unaware of a tick being attached to them. It seems important for dermatologists to examine patients carefully during the season of tick bites, in particular from April to July, irrespective of patients' complaints.
