Abstract

We investigated the clinical view of sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) without obesity (BMI<25). The organic characterishis of male objects were that the rate of tonsiller hypertrophy was small, and the rate of low level soft palate and falling of lingual back were large, functionally, the apnea hypopnea index (AHI) rose with body mass index (BMI) and aging. The characterishis of female subjects were that organic changes were few, but patients were older than in the obesity group, and AHI had no relationship with BMI or aging. We guess that the cause of SDB in males without obesity, except for facial configuration is related to organic and functional pharyngeal change, body weight, and aging. In females, the cause of SDB without obesity mostly is related to functional pharyngeal change.
