Abstract

Overall water splitting into H₂ and O₂ by applying photon energy is of interest in order to generate clean hydrogen using solar energy without carbon dioxide emission. To achieve such a photosynthetic reaction, it is important both to improve the intrinsic property of photocatalysts and to construct active sites for surface chemical reactions. This article focuses on the improvement of photocatalysts, including the state of the art, challenges and future outlook.
