Abstract

Transport properties of the bridge structures of organic molecules or graphene are theoretically analyzed. Coherent transport is confirmed in atomic wires by the quantization of conductance. As the bottleneck increases, oscillatory structures appear in the transmission spectra, which further changes to a spiky structure due to resonance tunneling. Some remarkable features such as a large loop current appear in the resonant tunneling process. With the increased coupling of electrons to molecular vibrations, or to the electro-magnetic environment, the transport feature changes from coherent to dissipative. In the case of coupling to molecular vibrations, the transition from a coherent molecular orbital-like transport to a dissipative polaron-like transport is analyzed.
