Abstract
This review concerns development of new chemically recyclable polyurethanes foams and elastomers. The key strategy is the introduction of acetal linkages into polyurethane backbones using acetal-containing polyols as raw materials. A treatment of these polyurethanes with aqueous acid at room temperature caused smooth hydrolysis reaction of the acetal linkages to produce polyols in high yield and high purity as degradation products.
