Abstract
In recent years, it is necessary for printing business to develop anew DTP infrastructure that places DTP systems over the networks, because such systems increase productivity of printing materials by supporting cooperative work performed over the networks. On the other hand, the recent progress of printing technology also places large-sized color printers close to home PCs. Now, there is a demand of exploiting such new hardware devices, e.g., printing large-sized printing materials that are created at remote DTP systems by sending them over the networks. Such large printing materials, however, require a huge amount of data thus interfering cooperative work over the networks. In this paper, we propose a new cooperative DTP system for large-scale printing materials. This system is equiped with the Fluency function-approximation method of still images that encodes images in a scalable and high quality manner with a small amount of data. By using this system, we have already developed many large scale posters that were used at many social meetings such as academic and non-academic forums.
