Abstract

In order to promote the recycling of food wastes generated in all stages of food-related businesses, including food production, processing, distribution, and consumption, the Food Recycling Law was enacted in May 2001. Following its enactment, the volume of food waste being generated tended to increase slightly, while the recycling rate for food waste (determined by weight base) at all food-related businesses improved from 37 percent in Fiscal 2001 to 53 percent in Fiscal 2006. Moreover, the results were recognized to be steady and consistent. The recycling rate in the food retail and service industries did, however, tend to fall off comparatively.<BR>Based on the above trends and marking the five-year period, revisions to the Food Recycling Law were incorporated in December 2007. Amendments further facilitate supervision and promotion of guidance in recycling efforts for all corresponding food-related businesses.
