Toyama Green Food Recycle, Inc. has been working on two recycling projects authorized by the Ministry of Agriculture as verification programs for an advanced model of a food recycling facility that includes biogasification of food waste and composting of pruned trees. These projects are being operated in the area of the Eco-Town Program in Toyama City, which has been approved as part of the Zero Emission Initiative being promoted throughout Japan as a measure toward the prevention of global warming. Toyama City Eco Town has been approved as the first case of its kind in the Hokuriku area, and 16th among ecological townships for the whole nation. By using methane fermentation techniques, food waste is being recycled into biogas, which fuels the in-house power generation at the facility. This report demonstrates the actual achievements of the program through such recycling projects over the past five years.
