Abstract
Hearing aids improve communication disorders due to hearing loss, and the improvement may be expected to have a good influence on the hearing-impaired. In this study, the effects of hearing aids on the psychosocial reactions and communication strategies were investigated in 32 subjects. To evaluate the effects on the psychosocial reactions and communication strategies, a questionnaire developed for hearing and evolution was administered before and after long-term use of the hearing aids to the patients. The results revealed a good influence of hearing aids on all items related to psychosocial reactions after approximately 3 months of use. Another re-evaluation performed approximately half a year after the first re-evaluation, revealed further improvement of the psychosocial reactions as compared with that noted at the first re-evaluation. Thus, hearing aids may reduce the stress arising from hearing loss and have a good influence on psychosocial reactions.
