Abstract

Purpose: We have opened an anorectal clinic for HIV-positive patients since July 2005, and introduce points for treatment at this time.
Patients: We examined thirty-two cases (70%) of condyloma acuminatum, eight cases (17%) of anal fistula (perianal abscess), three cases (7%) of hemorrhoids, one case (2%) of anal polyp, one case (2%) of Fourier' gangrene (necrotizing fasciitis), and one case (2%) of anal cancer, total 36 cases (all cases were men). These cases were treated with a total of forty-five operations, and one chemoradiation therapy as of June 30, 2007. All patients visited our hospital for the treatment at the HIV clinic.
Results: One patient had postoperative bleeding and two patients had recurrent condyloma acuminatum.
Design and suggestion: It is more important to set up a proper environment than to prepare a special technique. Surgery for HIV-positive patients with anal diseases should be managed in a manner similar to that of patients with other infectious diseases.
