Abstract

Rectal foreign bodies occur mainly due to sexual preference or accidents. We report a transanal technique for removing a rectal foreign body of a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottle which are now widely used. A 61-year-old man fell onto his backside and inserted a PET bottle into his anus while bathing. Originally, the PET bottle had been cut and had no bottom part. It was difficult to remove manually or by endoscopic technique. We bent the body of the PET bottle toward the inside with interstices of few several-centimeter intervals to form a cone, and then could remove it smoothly. The foreign body was 5cm across and 6.7cm in length. Postoperative complications did not occur. To our knowledge, this is the first case of a rectal foreign body of a PET bottle in the literature.<br>
