A study was conducted concerning contrast sensitivity using Contrast Glare Tester CGT-1000 (henceforth CGT-1000) produced by TAKAGI SEKO, Ltd. The subjects were 35 normal children between the ages of 4 years 6 months and 15 years 8 months. Their corrected vision was 20/20 or better. CGT-1000 measures the contrast threshold between 0.01 and 0.45 in each of 12 stages, using 6 kinds of double circle target between 6.3 and 0.7 degrees. Contrast sensitivity was measured automatically according to a subject's response using an up-down strategy. In this study, contrast sensitivity was measured using a duration of 0.4 seconds and an interval of 2 seconds. In the target sizes were between 6.3 and 2.5 degrees, and the contrast sensitivity showed comparatively high values, with little difference between cases. In the target sizes between 1.6 and 0.7 degrees, however, the smaller the target size was, the more different each case's contrast sensitivity was. An overall tendency was shown that contrast sensitivity decreased according to the decreasing size of the target. No difference was noted in the contrast sensitivity between the dominant eye or the non-dominant eye. The result shows high reproducibility. We concluded that the CGT-1000 is useful for the measurement of contrast sensitivity in children.
