Wave-front analysis is now of increasing importance for evaluating the optical system, and is useful for analyzing irregular astigmatism as well as for refractive surgery. We have investigated an appropriate method for measuring optical systems using ARK-10000 (NIDEK), which can analyze the optical system by wave-front analysis. The reproducibility of the method and the difference in aberration in terms of mydriatics, PHENYLEPHRINE HYDROCHLORIDE 5% and TROPICAMIDE 0.5% PHENYLEPHRINE HYDROCHLORIDE 0.5%, were studied on normal eyes.<br>The aberration in the central 4mm diameter zone had a good reproducibility regardless of the mydriatics, while in the 6mm zone showed a rather less reproducibility in lower-order aberration and Coma aberration.<br>Instillations of TROPICAMIDE 0.5% PHENYLEPHRINE HYDROCHLORIDE 0.5% slightly induced diminish in the total aberration and the lower-order aberration. The higher-order aberration slightly changed after instillation of mydriatics.<br>Instillation of mydriatics was found to be useful for reproductive measurement by ARK-10000. PHENYLEPHRINE HYDROCHLORIDE 5% was the appropriate mydriatics in the test.
