抄録

Stress hormone response to 3 h- or 24 h-exposure to different levels of suspended solids (50-500 mg/l of kaolin) was evaluated in ayu Plecoglossus altivelis. Significant increases in serum cortisol concentrations compared to control fish in clear water were detected in fish exposed for 3 h to water with 200 and 500 mg/l of kaolin but not in fish after 3 h exposure to 100 mg/l of kaolin. Additionally, 24 h-exposure to water with 50 mg/l of kaolin also elevated cortisol levels of ayu. The results suggest that long-time exposure to even low levels of suspended solids can stress ayu.
