抄録

The purpose of this study was to clarify the impact of the distance from stables to feed producing fields for a large-sized calf-raising farm. For that purpose, we surveyed large-sized calf-raising farms and performed a simulation using a linear programming model that takes into account daily traveling times and costs. The main findings of this study are as follows :<br>First, it’s necessary to have about thirteen hectares of fields that are about 0.4 hectares in size that are less than a kilometer from a stable to establish large-sized calf-raising farms that yield a high income and have a high average level of feed self-production.<br>Second, in the case when calf prices are down, it’s necessary for the farm to attain feed self-production. If fields are 0.4 hectares in size, it is important to amass fields that are less than three kilometers from the stable.<br>The results show that fields for feed production should be less than 3 kilometers from the stable. It is important to adjust land use in rural areas to establish large-sized calf-raising farms that yield a high income and have an advantage for feed self-production.
