抄録

Treatment for maxillofacial trauma accounts for large part of oral and maxillofacial surgery. Many treatment modalities for zygomatic fracture and condylar fracture have been introduced so far. This paper describes the technique that the author routinely applies for open reduction of zygomatic fracture and condylar fracture. <BR>For zygomatic fractures, exposures of the fracture lines are achieved by lateral eyebrow incision, subtarsal incision and intra-oral vestibular incision. The important aspect of the surgery is sufficient elevation of the periosteum of temporal surface of the fractured zygoma. This makes the precise reduction of the bone segment easy especially for the cases that have medially collapsed zygoma. <BR>For the cases of condylar fracture, exposure of the fracture line is achieved via retromandibular approach. In this procedure, identification of the posterior edge of the parotis and the fascia of sternomastoid muscle is the most important surgical step. After the identification of these anatomic landmarks, exposure of the posterior edge of the mandibular ramus is easily achieved by anterior retraction of the parotis.
