Carcinoma of the gallbladder is most commonly associated with the elderly, however ; the present paper introduces a 26-year-old female with this condition. Histological examination revealed moderate differentiated adenocarcinoma infiltration limited to the mucosa in a 10-mm fungating polypoid lesion of the gallbladder. So far as is known, our patient was the youngest case of early carcinoma of the gallbladder resected by laparoscopic cholecystectomy. The role of laparoscopy in the management of carcinoma has yet to be determined. If a carcinoma is confined to the mucosa without involvement of the cut stump of the cystic duct, an additional radical operation is not necessary. Therefore, we emphasize that laparoscopic cholecystectomy is suitable for suspected cases of gallbladder cancer in the young because it can lead to early dismissal from hospital, and has cosmetic benefit, but is restricted to cases of carcinoma confined to the mucosal layer.
