The association between the tobacco smoking and premature skin aging are reviewed. The objective evaluations of skin wrinkling, a computerized analysis of skin replica as well as parameters related to tobacco smoker are described. The mechanism involved in the development of premature skin aging induced by smoking is also discussed. Tobacco smoke is an important independent environment factor causing skin aging and changes of MMPs and TIMPs mRNA expression at cellular levels are directly related to this process.
