抄録

The present study was planned to investigate the factors of criminal situations of thefts from cars in detail, which were characteristics of residential blocks, streets, places parking cars and cars thieves could easily thieve. Date analysis was relied upon 20 cases on thefts from cars collected from the documents which were kept in Iwate Prefectual Police Headquarters. I also observed crime scenes of these cases. As a result, the situational factors most thieves could easily thieve were (1) difficulty in being caught in the act of searching cars as targets, (2) anonymity of areas and places parking cars as targets, (3) ease of access, (4) ease of escape, (5) sight of objectives to steal in cars, and (6) unlocked doors of cars.
