物性心理学的観点から見ると、人間の性格のタイプは4類型に分けられる。すなわち、人間が使用する「物」の特性から連想される、「木の性格」「鋼の性格」「布の性格」、そして、「プラスチックの性格」である。「プラスチックの性格」とは、軽薄で、脆く、無機質で無情な、冷淡で自己中心的な特性が著しい。現代人の多くは、ともすればこの性格に陥りやすい。したがって、親や教師は子どもたちを、努めてその反対の「木の性格」になるよう育て、導くといいだろう。「木の性格」は、優しさ、しなやかさ、生きんとする活力、温かさ、有機性、そして、したたかさと粘り強さを有している。

There are 4 types of human characters from the viewpoint of the psychology of matter. Those are wooden, steel, cloth and plastic characters. The plastic character is characterized with frivolous, fragile, inorganic, heartless, coldhearted and egoistic trait. Modern people is apt to fall into his character. If possible, parents and teachers bring up or train children toward the wooden character. It has gentle, flexible, heartily, warm, organic and persevering characteristic.
